The elegant interior of Honeysuckle Restaurant in North Philadelphia, designed for a unique dining experience.
Honeysuckle, a beloved restaurant, is relocating to North Philadelphia and opening on April 24. The new location boasts a fine dining experience, featuring a $95 fixed-price tasting menu and a gourmet bar program. With a commitment to Afrocentric culinary traditions and community engagement, Honeysuckle aims to provide a delightful dining atmosphere while uplifting local culture and employing more staff. Guests can anticipate a unique, immersive culinary journey that reflects history and geography, making it a must-visit destination.
North Philadelphia is buzzing with anticipation as Honeysuckle, a beloved dining establishment, prepares to open its doors on April 24. Situated at the new location of 631 N. Broad St. in the space that previously housed Clementine’s Stable Cafe, this new restaurant will be a whole new ball game compared to its former West Philadelphia location.
The brand new Honeysuckle is nearly four times larger than its predecessor, which is sure to make dining here a delightful experience. Gone are the days of grocery services and all-day breakfasts; the focus is now on a sophisticated fine dining experience. Get ready for a tasting menu that showcases a magnificent culinary journey, all while enjoying a well-curated bar program.
This fresh iteration of Honeysuckle will exclusively serve dinner, with operations running from Wednesday to Sunday. The highlight of the menu is a $95 fixed-price tasting menu, which can be extended to $135 by adding enticing drinks and a sweet wine pairing with dessert. Those who prefer to mix things up can check out the a la carte bar menu which features tasty selections like oyster stew, hanger steak, and a gourmet cheeseburger cheekily named “McDonald’s Money.”
The “McDonald’s Money” burger is inspired by the legendary Eddie Murphy’s standup and incorporates luxurious touches such as truffle, caviar remoulade, and even edible gold. Honeysuckle’s bar area, accommodating five guests, is designed to evoke a relaxed, communal dining experience akin to gathering in a cozy living room.
At the heart of Honeysuckle is a commitment to celebrating Afrocentric culinary traditions. This focus reflects the rich cultural backgrounds of the founders, who are committed to creating mouthwatering dishes that tell stories through food. St.Aude-Tate, who is leading the bar program, is passionate about highlighting natural wines and spirits created by women and people of color.
Guests can expect intriguing cocktails like the “Lajan Sal”, a playful take on a dirty martini, and the “Black Cake,” which brings in flavors inspired by the Caribbean. A fermentation director will curate house-made beverages, ensuring that every sip pairs perfectly with the exceptional menu.
Honeysuckle is also committed to uplifting the local community, employing around 40 to 45 people—almost double the prior staff. As part of their mission, they will offer memberships that provide access to exclusive educational events and workshops at Plowshare Farms, the source of many ingredients used in their dishes.
Early samples from Honeysuckle’s menu have included items like lacto-fermented collard stems and thoughtfully prepared oyster dishes, each crafted to reflect a narrative about history and geography through dining. The couple behind Honeysuckle have honed their craft in innovative ways; their previous “UNTITLED” dinner series blended art, poetry, and food seamlessly.
Honeysuckle is not just a restaurant, but a personal journey for its founders, as Tate has roots in North Philadelphia. The space is adorned with various artworks that illustrate collaborations with local artists while honoring Black culture. The design reflects a commitment to community, making every visit not only a meal but an experience that you’ll cherish.
As April 24 approaches, excitement mounts for Honeysuckle’s grand unveiling in North Philadelphia. Be sure to mark your calendars, because this is one dining experience you won’t want to miss!
